Athletic Training     Exercise Science

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Lasell College Athletic Training Education Program is to allow for the intellectual and personal growth of students pursuing a career as an Athletic Trainer. Emphasis is placed on the role of the Athletic Trainer, as part of the health care community, and the development of knowledge, skill, clinical decision making, and professional and ethical principles. In accordance with the Lasell College mission and connected learning philosophy, students will develop into outstanding entry level professionals through a comprehensive competency-based didactic and clinical education foundation; designed to prepare students for eligibility for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination.

Athletic Training Education Program Goals and Learning Outcomes
The following goals and associated learning outcomes delineate what we strive for students to achieve when they complete the major program of study in Athletic Training:

Goal 1: Communication
Outcomes:

  1. Engage in disciplinary research
  2. Understand and create discipline specific written work (i.e., exercise prescriptions)
  3. Engage in reflective writing for the purpose of self assessment
  4. Interact professionally and educate clients, patients, peers, colleagues and medical/athletic personnel
  5. Utilize and incorporate technology into discipline specific written and oral work

Goal 2: Ethical Decision Making
Outcomes:

  1. Adhere to the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) code of ethics  
  2. Identify ethical issues
  3. Translate ethical issues into responsible actions in the Allied Health Field

Goal 3: Professional Competence/ Application of Performance domain content
Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate cognitive competence in core athletic training content areas as defined by the NATA Education Council in accordance with CAATE (The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education)
  2. Demonstrate psychomotor competence in core athletic training content areas as
  3. defined by the NATA Education Council in accordance with CAATE
  4. Demonstrate clinical proficiency in core athletic Training content areas as defined by the NATA Education Council in accordance with CAATE

Goal 4: Professional Decision Making/Critical Thinking
Outcomes:

  1. Incorporate evidence based practice into discipline specific programming
  2. Create discipline specific programs to address special patient population and individual needs
  3. Modify discipline specific programs to address special patient population and individual needs

Goal 5: Professional and Personal Development
Outcomes:

  1. Understand the need to engage in continuous education regarding the Athletic Training Performance Domains
  2. Model professional conduct and behavior   

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Exercise Science program at Lasell College is to develop outstanding entry-level professionals in the field of exercise science who possess a solid foundation in theory and application of exercise science principles. Through coursework and Connected Learning experiences, the curriculum is designed to promote professional competence, critical thinking skills, effective written and oral communication, professional interaction, ethical decision making, and professional and personal development.

  3. Demonstrate abilities (affective) in core exercise science content areas as defined by the COAES
