Students Receive First Entrepreneurship Grants through Lasell’s Small Business Institute

December 6, 2012

Three Lasell students have been awarded $1,000 entrepreneurship grants through the College's Small Business Institute (SBI) and Office of Academic Affairs. This is the first time the College has awarded grants for student-created small businesses.

The grant program was created to support current students who have already developed a small business. SBI officials plan to expand the grant program to small business ideas in the future.

Grant winners were:

  • Lindsay Reilly who started Lindsay Tia Designs, which offers one-of-a-kind handbags, key chains and t-shirts. Reilly is the designer and creator of these items.
  • Nellie Theroux for her independent fashion design company and online store, Peaceful Fashion, offering ready-to-wear garments and accessories as well as custom design services.
  • William Ryan Whitfield for his company Rescue Music Entertainment, which he founded with Zack Howland. Whitfield states that the label has "indie values and corporate goals."

Strarting in January 2013, grant recipients will participate in a six-month mentoring program with a faculty member or small business owner and attend small business workshops and seminars.

At the end of the mentoring program, grant recipients will communicate their experiences through a brief report and share their work with the Lasell College community at a Small Business Institute Workshop/Seminar.
