Student Profile

Spencer Fulone ’23 jokes that he’ll have time to sleep after he graduates. The busy senior is on schedule to graduate in December with two bachelor’s degrees (marketing and entrepreneurship) in just three and half years, while simultaneously holding campus leadership roles as a resident assistant, class officer, and Blue Key Society ambassador. He served as Student Alumni Association president as a sophomore and junior. Over the summer, he completed a paid internship at SPIROL International Corp., a Connecticut-based manufacturing giant that services aerospace, defense, green energy, automotive, and medical technology companies. Outside of work, he spent his time hiking the mountains in New England that are at least 4,000 feet high.

Were you always so involved with student activities?
I come from a small town where my high school graduating class was 65 students. I was really involved there, but going from that to Lasell was still a big step out of my comfort zone. I tried to make the most of every opportunity I had to meet new people and to further my career, and I am really glad that I did not skip out on those experiences.

What prompted you to join the Student Alumni Association (SAA)?
I joined in my first semester after learning about SAA at the Activities Fair. The group aligned with my interests so much that I actually stepped up to become president in my sophomore year. It has been a great way to meet and support other career-minded students and network with Lasell alumni.

What new SAA programs did you launch?
We started a resume workshop to give students the opportunity to have alumni in their field of choice review their resumes. We held a panel discussion with Lasell Village residents who retired from careers in medicine, technology, real estate, pharma, and education. This fall, we started a new initiative to connect SAA and Board of Overseers members, who have so much to offer in terms of experience and network connections. The ability to build that relationship and develop insider understanding in your field is invaluable.

Clubs and academics aside, what else is on your plate?
I am a huge foodie, which means you can usually find me trying out new places around Greater Boston. I take any opportunity I can to try new foods from different cultures. Then there’s hiking — I love being in the mountains and am a New Englander through and through! I hope to find a job that will allow me to be outside, travel, and explore the world while advancing my career.

Do you have any advice for current or incoming students?
Your time at Lasell will fly by. Try to find a balance between academic priorities and your social life and make the most of opportunities on and off campus — Lasell is in such a great location! Also know that it is normal to be nervous when you start college. People come from all different backgrounds, but everyone is looking for the same outcome — to meet new people and have a great experience — so there really is nothing to be afraid of.
