Class Notes

1940s

1942
Ruth Bowlend Eckhoff’s family made a gift to Lasell in her memory following her passing at the age of 101 on February 7 in Sarasota, Florida. Her obituary described her as “amazing.” Before retiring to Florida, she and her late husband, John, operated a restaurant in New Hampshire. She was particularly proud of serving as register of probate for Carroll County in New Hampshire.

1950s

1952
Barbara Wenzel Boucher
and her husband live on the coast of Maine and have a son, daughter, and two grandchildren. She has great memories of her days at Lasell: Bragdon House, Torchlight, and teachers like Dr. Inez Williams and Miss Babcock, who introduced her to the world of laboratory technology. She writes, “It’s hard to believe that 72 years have gone by. I would love to hear from anyone from the Class of 1952.” 

Zeau Conover DuBois Brown’s family made a generous gift to Lasell to mark the 10th anniversary of her passing on January 13, 2014, in East Rupert, Vermont. She worked as a newspaper reporter in New Jersey before moving to Vermont in 1991.

1953
Class Secretary | Mary Ann Donahue

Lee Smith Connors still lives in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and enjoys playing golf and bowling. She has five children, 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann Donahue splits time between her summer house at the edge of Cape Cod and her New York apartment. She enjoys following the political scene wherever she is. She sees Shirley Vara Gallerani at lunches on the Cape and stays in touch via email with Lee Coronella Krueger, who now lives in Oregon. She writes, “Keep those Class Notes coming!”

Barbara Howell is a longtime member of the Conservation Commission in Wayland, Massachusetts. She retired from nursing at age 55 and volunteered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, leading programs that introduced children to the natural world.

Elsie Knaus Klemt reports that she’s doing OK after last year’s leg surgery and is using a trusty cane for support. She hopes to travel to her granddaughter’s wedding in New Hampshire.

Kathleen MacGregor Randolph has lived for 12 years at Westminster Village, a resort retirement community in Scottsdale, Arizona. She manages the Fabulous Finds Shop, assists the director of the astronomy group, and researches her family in her genealogy class. She writes, “It keeps me busy as well as learning.”

Louise “Weezie” Dawe Turner P’74 lives at the Willows in Westborough, Massachusetts, where she reports the people are friendly and the food is good. She worked in real estate until last summer and still handles referrals. She is in touch with Jean DiFrancesco Ruland, who recently moved to Fanwood, New Jersey, to be near her family.

and her husband, Bob, are well and still enjoying each other, their seven children and spouses, 19 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren (with a fourth expected in February 2025). She keeps in touch with Mary McCulloch Bush, her dear friend for 70 wonderful years!

reports that her husband of 48 years, Robert, died on July 20 at the age of 87.

 Jacoby Adelstein enjoys life every day and likes to swim, walk, socialize, and paint. Her granddaughter Ellie graduated from Bates College.

Sally Cabral Crowe
taught for 32 years and moved to Atlanta in 2009 to be close to her daughters. She volunteers at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, where she leads tours for adults and children, greets visitors, and shares information about the vanilla orchid. Over the summer she traveled to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island to visit family. She writes, “New England is still home. I fondly remember my years at Lasell.”

Barbara “Barby” Davis Delano and her husband, Dave, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in June. They have three sons and four grandchildren. For the last 18 years they have lived at The Overlook, a lifecare facility in Charlton, Massachusetts. Barby writes, “I love receiving Leaves and enjoy reading everyone’s news. My best to all.”

Patricia McKinnon Williams Dernavich and her husband, Rodney, live in Fort Myers, Florida, near her sister Ginny McKinnon Dernavich ’62. She chaired her local hospital’s fashion show for the 20th year and then had her left knee replaced a week later. She does water aerobics five days a week. Her daughter, son, and two grandchildren live in North Carolina. She writes, “For our age, we’re doing great.”

Carolyn Flaster Goldenberg stays in touch with Lasell roommate Debbie Hoch Rockoff and Marilyn Manzke Loglisci. She still lives in Stamford, Connecticut, with her husband of 59 years, Mel. They have three grandsons. They lost their youngest child, Adam, six years ago. Carolyn writes, “Life has not been the same since, but we are blessed to have each other and enjoy our small family and wonderful friends.”

Doris “Dee” Orben Campbell and her husband, Don, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in May. They moved from their home in the mountains of North Carolina to a cottage in an independent living complex.

1964
Ruth DeWitt Ghia
and her husband enjoyed a pair of two-week cruises in 2024. In February they sailed from Buenos Aires to Antarctica and had the experience of crossing the dreaded Drake Passage. Their scheduled port in the Falkland Islands had to be canceled due to a storm with 35-foot waves. In September they cruised from England to Scotland and Iceland. Ruth enjoys an occasional lunch with Joan Keefe Feloney and keeps in touch, via monthly email, with Pat Perry Polidor, Joy Raymond Carey, Dianne Farr Vigil, and Joan. She writes, “Hopefully, this will be a good and healthy year for all of my 1964 classmates.”

Marilyn Messer and Jan McPherson Pretto ’58 live at a continuing-care retirement community in Pleasanton, California. They each moved to the West Coast many years ago. After Marilyn read Jan’s bio in the resident directory and learned that she had gone to Lasell, Marilyn contacted her. They both enjoy playing Mexican Train on Fridays. Writes Marilyn, “Jan wins more than I do. We run into each other at activities and classes. It’s fun to connect with someone from Lasell.” 

Darlene Smith Riemer has served as sole practitioner at her own architectural firm in Amenia, New York, for the last 35 years. She has her certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and worked jobs recently in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and Minnesota. She writes, “I’m not ready to retire but am taking on fewer jobs and enjoying the experience.”

1965
Diane Yacovone Aurigemma
has fond memories of her fabulous classmates at Karandon House: Betsy, Trudi, Linda R., Linda K., Karin R., Karen W., Miriam, Joan M., Annette, Dede, and Marilyn. She writes, “Please forgive me if I left anyone out.” She has never lost her love for horses, and still exercises and breezes them. Her son occasionally rides with her. She stays active and works part time for the federal courts in Connecticut.

1967
Class Secretary | Katherine McDonough Ryan P’03

Ann Hudson North writes, “My dear husband of 55 years died in March. So I must make a decision: Shall I face life without my buddy or shall I choose to embrace it? With that thought, after 45 years in Delaware I am moving to North Carolina to be close to my daughter and her husband. Onward!”

Cindy Rardin Crawford
and her husband, Richard, traveled to campgrounds in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and near Lake Erie in Western New York in their 28-foot motor home. They made a brief trip to Massachusetts for a reunion with Cindy’s high school friends.

Jane Norcross Bodrie is a realtor on Cape Cod following 32 years as an international flight attendant for TWA. She works for Sotheby’s International and enjoys finding the right home for buyers and assisting sellers in their transition. She recently spent two weeks in Corsica with her family. She and her husband like to sail. She writes, “I am so proud and excited to see the incredible progress that Lasell University is making. It makes my heart sing!”

1969
Mary Anne Conboy G’15
is active in her community on Cape Cod. She was appointed to the board of directors of the Falmouth Genealogical Society and volunteered at the 52nd running of the Falmouth Road Race. Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has read or listened to more than 750 books. 

Carol Stern Ferranti is a self-employed special education consultant and lives on Cape Cod.

Nancy Alterman Walker is still living in Charleston, South Carolina, and treasures the memories of her days as a student with Charlotte Salmon and Rebecca Robarts Wilson.

Mary Hobler Hyson enjoyed a family vacation in Maine with all 14 Hysons, ages 2 to 75.

1972
Beth Andrews Haidet
is loving life in Fort Myers, Florida. She occasionally heads north to babysit the youngest of her 14 grandchildren. Three of the older grandchildren were married this fall. She writes, “I’m truly blessed! Hi to my classmates!”

1974
Class Secretary | Barbara Hirschfield Henry

Adria Goldman Gross co-authored Apparently DIFFERENT: The Struggle for Understanding, Acceptance, and Compassion. The book is dedicated to those who cope with being perceived negatively for being different. The authors write, “You deserve understanding, acceptance, and compassion; we hope this book contributes to your obtaining all these.”

Patricia Raposa Reineke is an assistant professor of nursing and directs the clinical education program at Yeshiva University in New York.

Marianne Moran Conkey
has retired as a full-time teacher and works as a substitute teacher in the Sarasota County School District in Florida.

1976
Vicki Thoenen Senter
joined the client account services team at Leone, McDonnell & Roberts in Dover, New Hampshire. She is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and has worked in the field for more than 20 years.

1978
Kristina Leclaire
started a volunteer job in the Winslow Archives room at Lasell’s Brennan Library, where she archives history from the school’s founding in 1851 to the present.

1980s

1982

Shari Stein Cutler retired seven years ago after teaching kindergarten and first grade for 31 years. She owns a holistic health business, which includes Reiki, sound healing, nutrition coaching, magnetic energy work, detoxing practices, and essential oil consultations. Her daughter started college and plans to major in biology. She writes, “Hey to my McClelland girls! I miss you all!”

Cathy Hall Ferrara
has enjoyed a long career in bedside nursing, mostly in critical care/step down. She currently works in an outpatient photopheresis clinic at Morristown, New Jersey. Cathy writes, “I have wonderful memories from Lasell! I felt the nursing program was excellent, allowing us to learn at some of the top hospitals in Boston. I was very sad to see the program close.”

is a yoga teacher and lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

Michelle Rumsey McAfee is an inclusion teacher in the Boston Public Schools.

Kristin Messerschmitt Kinsky was named chair of Lasell’s fashion merchandising and management program. She writes, “This year we have a new location for our Lasell Fashion Thrift and Career Closet in the Michael B. Alexander Science & Technology Center; a new team leading initiatives for our studio1851 gift shop; and a new faculty member, Rosemary Leger ’16, who also happens to be a School of Fashion alum!” On a personal note, Kristin is now an empty nester as her younger son is at Belmont University in Nashville following his music dreams. Her older son is at Quinnipiac University studying business.

Danielle Blais Flad started a new position as senior manager of visual merchandising at New Balance.

Ryan Morell, territory manager and field sales trainer at Boston Scientific, shared his professional experiences through the new Alumni Career Presentation Program in Professor Bruce McKinnon’s introductory business class. Ryan told the students that at Lasell he “learned how to stand on my own, be accountable for my actions, and grow from learning with a diverse group of people.”

Holeigh Filkins Cribben has been a stay-at-home mom for the last six years and lives in Plymouth, South Carolina. Daughter Grace is 6, son William is 5, and son Raymond turned 1 in November. She writes, “We love living in the South. We have moved the kids to a homeschool environment and it’s been an amazing journey!”

Rachel Craft Howard has transitioned into a new role as an instructional coach with a focus on literacy at an elementary school in Massachusetts after many years as a special education teacher. She is in her second year working closely with teachers to enhance literacy instruction. She writes, “This position allows me to share my passion for literacy on a broader scale, supporting educators in implementing effective teaching strategies and fostering a love of reading and writing among our students.”

Michelle McNickle joined Sage Growth Partners, a Baltimore-based healthcare research, strategy, and marketing firm, as an account group director and writer. She is responsible for leading key client accounts and helping to assist with the development of thought leadership strategies and content development. Prior to joining Sage, she was a senior content and marketing manager for Bright.md and senior digital marketing specialist for Deltek.

Alexis Sweeting G’14 was part of the Telemundo Deportes team that won a 2024 Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Studio Show in Spanish for the network’s coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. A production manager, Alexis worked the Summer Games in Paris — her fourth Olympics.

Jonathan Klippert, former Lasell men’s soccer captain, returned to campus to discuss the power of networking and the importance of creating personal connections with student-athletes. Jon has spent more than 12 years at Winslow Technology Group, where he was promoted to director of regional sales in 2020. His passion for video games sparked his entry into IT, which began with a student job at Lasell. Jon told the students that he often hires student-athletes because of their strong work ethic and ability to maintain balance.

Jessica Hutchings Gagnon serves as a marketing and social media administrator for Kinefac Corp. in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Shawna Labbee has been living in Maine for the past five years and enjoys the plentiful nature trails and adventures. She writes, “I now work for the state and have an appreciation for serving others.”

2014
Class Secretary | Flannagh Fitzsimmons

Kayla Diggins opened her own women’s clothing store, Harper James, in Easthampton, Massachusetts. “I’ve never been prouder or happier,” she told the Daily Hampshire Gazette. She opened Harper James online two years ago, and through pop-ups at area wineries and vendor fairs, she discovered that people wanted to shop in a store.

Danielle Rico and longtime partner Jay Crosby plan to get married at the Hyla Brook Estate in Derry, New Hampshire, in June 2025. Their two kids — Emma (13) and Payton (5) — will walk them down the aisle. Danielle started a new job at BeyondTrust as a field marketing manager. She has been planning events for more than 11 years.

Christopher Schiraldi is founder and CEO of C.SEC, an executive search firm in Guilford, Connecticut.

2016
Class Secretary | Jordan Dalpe

Aaron Catarina joined the police department in his hometown of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, as a patrolman. He was born and raised in the town and graduated from North Smithfield High School.

Emily DeAngelis is in her third year as assistant athletic trainer at Regis College. She spent five years as a member of the athletic training staff at Bridgewater State University, providing athletic training services and designing strength and conditioning programs. At Lasell, she was a four-year letterwinner in softball. In addition to her work at Regis, Emily is an adjunct lecturer at Merrimack College.

Jay Franzone, national strategic partnership manager at Everytown for Gun Safety, was named a Bloomberg Fellow through the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He was awarded a full scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in public health.

Rosemary Leger has been promoted from adjunct lecturer to a full-time faculty member in Lasell’s School of Fashion. She earned a master’s in textile science from the University of Rhode Island in 2021 and is pursuing her doctorate in business administration with a focus on marketing and consumer behavior from the school.

Shapleigh Webster works as a sales account coordinator at Naturipe Farms.

Shannon Hart has worked as a talent coordinator at CBS Sports for two years. She attended the NCAA Final Four and the Army-Navy football game.

2019
Class Secretary | Rebecca Van Spall-Hood

Hannah Amorello is a copywriter at Bloomingdale’s in New York.

Chloe Boyce started a new position as product merchandiser at Dickies.

Sarah Gillooly was promoted from teacher to assistant principal and athletic director at Jensen Beach High School in Florida.

Rebecca Glick, a stitcher/dresser at North Shore Music Theatre, was nominated for a prestigious Eliot Norton Theater Award for outstanding costume design for Moonbox Productions’ Sweeney Todd.

Katy O’Connor and Eric Callahan were engaged in March and recently moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island, with their dog. Katy is manager of client services at Access TCA.

Lane Sulzer G’20 was promoted to director of annual giving at Vassar College. Lane oversees a team of 11 full-time employees and is responsible for raising more than $10 million annually for the Vassar Fund.

Taylor Walby is the assistant varsity field hockey coach at her alma mater, Boothbay Region High School in Maine. She also serves as coach of the junior varsity team. Taylor played for the Lasers for two seasons.

2020s

2020
Class Secretary | Katie Jones

Morgan Choquet was named director of athletic communications and home event coordinator at Lasell. She spent a year as sports information director at Lesley University and four years working in sports information at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Morgan played lacrosse for the Lasers and serves as an assistant coach for the team.

Raymond Liang G’24 is a patrol officer with the Boston Police Department.

Hannah Smith married Jared Sgroi on August 24 in Harpswell, Maine. Alumni in attendance included Katie Jones.

2021
Class Secretary | Brianna Doody

Ben Biello was named coach of the Regis College cross country and track and field program. He had served in a similar role at Lasell since March 2022. Ben was a four-year letterwinner on the Lasers track and field team.

Angel Reyes was featured in The Boston Globe as an Amplify LatinX ALX100 honoree, a list  honoring 100 of the brightest Latinx leaders across Massachusetts. He was also highlighted in the Hispanic Heritage Month Latinos Driving Change spotlight campaign at BeLIVE Coaching and Consulting.

2022
Class Secretary | Courtney Sobolewski

Colleen Egan G’24 graduated from the Solstice MFA in Creative Writing Program at Lasell.

Jenna Robinson is a graphic designer for the Franklin Community Co-op in Massachusetts. The locally owned community food co-op has stores in Greenfield and Shelburne Falls. She creates all signage and advertisements; manages the co-op’s social media platforms and website; and designs the seasonal magazine.

2023

Class Secretary | Emily Casella

Maddie Bailey Avery started a job as event and sales coordinator at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway, New Hampshire. The new position feels like a full-circle moment since she spent her childhood skiing at Cranmore with her family and her grandparents owned a ski area. Maddie has been having a blast planning events and taking lots of photos for social media and the resort website.

Sheridan Blaha, a nursing tech at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, received a WE CARE Award for her commitment to well-being, empathy, collaboration, accountability, respect, and equity. Sheridan is excited to work toward becoming a registered nurse.

Jesus Garcia was named assistant coach of the Roger Williams University women’s volleyball team. A five-year player for Lasell, the setter averaged 8.48 assists per set with 635 digs, 132 kills, and 113 blocks during his career.

Kaitlyn Gargas works as an operations supervisor at MGM Music Hall in Boston. She also goes to other venues to either attend concerts or work side gigs on her days off. In August, she served as a production runner for Kenny Chesney at Gillette Stadium. This was her first time working Gillette and a full-circle moment since she attended her first concert there almost exactly 10 years ago.

Nico Manganiello works as a board operator and producer at WEEI radio in Boston.

Sam Roberts has joined the Eastern States Exposition’s sales department as the Hooplandia event coordinator. He served as an intern with New England Sports Network and Blue-Sky Sports and Entertainment.

Omar Jimenez Soto is director of dining services at the WilmerHale Café, part of the Flik Hospitality Group.

2024

Mekenzie Barbosa does custom alterations at SOPH, an inclusive fashion boutique in Westport, Massachusetts, that was featured in The Herald News.

Julia Figueiral is a field marketing ambassador for Celsius energy drinks.

LJ LaFiura II established a Student Media Hall of Fame for his senior capstone project to recognize alumni who have shown exceptional commitment to The 1851 Chronicle, WLAS radio, and Lasell Community Television both as students and after graduation. The first inductees were Zac Vierra ’13, Chronicle; Justin Miller ’14, WLAS; and Jilliana Sliby ’16, LCTV.

Eftihia Fotos is pursuing her master’s degree in school psychology from William James College.

Emily Lifson is the front desk supervisor at the Sheraton in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Julia McNicol joined TJX as a product development specialist for kids apparel. She writes, “This opportunity is especially meaningful to me because my first job was at HomeGoods, one of TJX’s brands.”

Kim Nguyen worked as a merchandising intern at Macy’s headquarters in New York over the summer.

Graduate

Maria Crooker-Capone G’16, executive director of Alternative House, received a Distinguished Young Professionals Award from the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce. Alternative House provides support for survivors of domestic violence.

Kathleen Jenkins-Brown G’17 accepted the position of senior project manager with the UMass Chan Medical School’s consulting division, ForHealth Consulting. Working directly with the Office of Clinical Affairs, she assists with projects that promote health access, equity, and advancement.

Michael Assad Jr. G’24, detective sergeant in the Mashpee Police Department, was named chief of police in Rochester, Massachusetts. He started his career as a police officer in Laconia, New Hampshire, in 2002 and moved to Mashpee in 2006.

Adrimely Fernandes Borges G’24 was promoted to supervisor of the medical records department at Naveris after completing her MBA at Lasell in May.
