Biography:
Amy Maynard is an Associate Professor of Education with a special interest in the learning processes of literacy learners of all ages. Her dissertation combined her interests in literacy and pre-service teacher training by using photographs as a vehicle to develop and enhance pre-service teachers' reflective practice. Her interests include the use of trade books in elementary classrooms, providing opportunities for elementary students to develop a passion for reading through embedded curriculum and using reading strategies to support content learning for students in both upper elementary, middle, and high school.
What do you like about teaching?
“As children learn to read and write, the role of the teacher can be critical. Educating future teachers allows me to share my love of working with children, and help instill in my own students a love of reading and writing that they will bring to their own classrooms.”
What is your teaching philosophy for Lasell courses?
“Lasell education students are immersed in teaching and learning processes right from the start of their time in the Education Department. We embed the practices of teaching within the courses we teach and help students to consider their own learning practices as well as those of their students.”
