Biography:
Professor Catherine Zeek's scholarly interests focus on integrating high-impact teaching practices and effective supports for part-time faculty. She presents regularly at conferences including Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy, American Educational Research Association, New England Educational Assessment Network, and American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Professor Zeek's articles appear in Journal of Teacher Education, Reading Research and Instruction, and research yearbooks of National Reading Conference, College Reading Association, and Association of Teacher Educators.
Professor Zeek joined Lasell in 2005. She is the founding director of the Teaching and Learning Center, founded in 2010, which provides leadership and support to faculty teaching in face-to-face, online, and blended settings. Prior to this role, she chaired Lasell’s Education Department, developing and launching a M.Ed. program. Her previous higher education experience includes chairing the Reading Department at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas and teaching courses at Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas. Her classroom experience includes teaching second and first graders and leading writing workshops for all elementary grades. She has held leadership roles in Rotary International, Phi Delta Kappa, and several school district committees related to literacy.
In collaboration with a colleague, Professor Zeek developed transactional inquiry, a process through which educators read and respond to their own and others' narratives of effective practice, identifying applications to their own teaching.
