The Players' Sanctuary
Alumni donors fund new Lasell athletic team rooms

By David Nathan

Lasell athletes now have an upgraded space to gather, strategize, support one another, and connect as a team.

The Dawn Costin ’03 and Erik Costin ’02 men’s team room and Katharina Decas ’59 women’s team room were unveiled to the Lasell community during a ceremony over Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend. The renovated team rooms feature new wooden lockers, couches, and big screen TVs for film review.

“A team room is more than a place for players to change and watch game footage,” said President Eric Turner at the ceremony. As a former collegiate athlete, he “came to see a team room as the players’ sanctuary, where we gathered our thoughts, shared successes and failures, and cemented friendships that lasted long after our playing days ended.”

Erik Costin was one of the first Lasers to score 1,000 career points for the men’s basketball team. His wife, Dawn, established the Lasell cheerleading program. Decas, who passed away shortly after the dedication ceremony, served as co-captain of the Lasell crew and volleyball teams and also played basketball and softball.
