Parking at Lasell University is managed by Campus Police. The Office is located on the lower level of Winslow Hall, 80 Maple Street; the telephone number is 617-243-2279.
Parking at Lasell University is a privilege, not a right. Students found in violation of any University policy, rule or regulation may have their parking privileges revoked by the Chief of Police, and this action can be in addition to any other conduct sanctions that may be issued to a student. Any student who receives three or more tickets for parking violations in an academic semester may have their parking permit revoked and may not be eligible for a parking permit for a period of one year. Resident Parking permits not picked up within 3 business days of the start of the semester will be forfeited and parking fee will be refunded.
- Vehicles are only permitted to operate on proper streets, roadways, and parking lots. Driving and parking are prohibited on fields, grass, and walking paths. Drivers must obey all traffic laws and operate their vehicles in a safe manner at all times while on Lasell University property. Operating vehicles in an unsafe manner may result in the revocation of parking privileges and/or possible criminal complaints.
- Mopeds and minibikes are not permitted in or on Lasell University property at any time.
- All vehicles must display a Lasell University parking permit while parked on Lasell University owned or leased property. Vehicles with a Lasell parking permit must be properly registered and insured in their home state. Any change in the information pertaining to a vehicle with a Lasell parking permit (e.g., a new license plate or new insurance) must be reported to the Campus Police Department within three (3) business days.
- Lasell University parking permits must be displayed on the lower, front windshield of the vehicle, on the driver’s side. Improperly placed stickers may result in a ticket being issued for "failure to display decal".
- Vehicles, displaying a Lasell parking permit, may only be parked in the designated areas for which they are permitted.
- Vehicles found parked on Lasell VILLAGE property are subject to immediate ticketing and/or towing.
- Vehicles, with a Lasell parking permit, must be parked within lined parking spaces. An improperly parked car in an adjacent space does not constitute an excuse for straddling any painted lines.
- Any student violating Lasell's alcohol policy while operating or in control of a motor vehicle will be subject to arrest and may have their parking privileges revoked.
- Lasell University is not responsible for any damage or theft of motor vehicles or their contents while on Lasell University owned or leased property.
- During snow emergencies, vehicles must be moved upon notice from Campus Police.
- Vehicles found parked in a Fire Lane, at any time, are subject to immediate ticketing and/or towing.
- Vehicles found parked, at any time, in a designated handicap parking space without a handicap parking permit, are subject to immediate ticketing and/or towing.
- Fire Lane Violations and Handicap Violations are not eligible for ticket appeals.
- Any individual, who alters a Lasell University parking permit or is found to be in possession of a counterfeit or altered Lasell University parking permit, may be subject to the temporary or permanent revocation of their parking privileges, along with a fine (not to exceed the cost of a year’s permit), and/or possible criminal prosecution.
- Students are not permitted to transfer parking permits to another person or vehicle.
Students wishing to appeal a parking ticket must do so within seven (7) days of issuance. Appeals can be filed by choosing the “Appeals” tab in the MyParking application on MyLasell, or sending an email to Parking@lasell.edu. Appeals for tickets issued for illegally parked vehicles (for any reason and/or for any amount of time), will be denied. Students should review the “Parking Rules and Regulations” to ensure that they were not in violation, prior to sending an appeal. Fire Lane and Handicap Violations are not eligible for appeal.
Parking for guests of Lasell University students is available on campus between Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Students have seven (7) weekends of combined temporary/guest parking available to them each semester. Guests of Lasell University students must register their vehicles with the Lasell University Campus Police Department. Vehicles may be registered, and a Guest Permit obtained by contacting Campus Police at any time. Both the Lasell University student and his/her guest must be present to register the vehicle and obtain a Guest Parking Permit. The Lasell University student is required to present his/her Lasell ID card, and the guest is required to present his/her driver's license and valid vehicle registration. There is no charge for a Guest Parking Permit. While on Lasell University owned or leased property, a guest is the responsibility of the Lasell student who is hosting him/her. The Lasell student who is hosting a guest is responsible for all fines and/or towing charges that may be incurred by the guest. Failure to register a guest vehicle may result in ticketing and/or towing expenses, and those expenses will be the responsibility of the Lasell student who is hosting that guest. *Campus Police/Parking Office reserves the right to revoke guest parking during inclement weather or any emergency event*
Stolen permits must be reported to Campus Police and the Parking Office immediately. Any lost permit needs to be reported to the Parking Office, and there will be a $10 replacement fee.
If a student changes vehicles, the student must obtain a new parking permit from the Parking Office. An email needs to be sent to parking@lasell.edu to update the Parking Office on vehicle changes.
Pursuant to Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 90, Section 3, every non-resident of Massachusetts who is enrolled as a student at a college or university in the Commonwealth, during any period beginning on September 1st of any year and ending on August 31st of the following year, who operates a motor vehicle that is registered in a state or country other than Massachusetts, must complete a Nonresident Driver Statement. This applies to students commuting from out-of-state to a college or university in Massachusetts, as well as students temporarily residing in Massachusetts, whether living on a college or university campus or not.
The Nonresident Driver Statement is available at Campus Police. Non-resident students will be required to complete this form prior to receiving a Lasell University parking permit, at which time they will be issued the required massDOT decal, which must be affixed to the uppermost center portion of their vehicle’s windshield. The penalty for failure to comply with this law is up to $200. NOTE: the massDOT nonresident driver decal is not a Lasell University parking permit.
Upon being granted parking and returning for the upcoming academic school year, parking permit fees will be added to student’s accounts prior to picking up the permit. Students will be refunded if permit is not picked up within 3 days of the start of the semester. Parking fees may be refunded, upon request, to a student who terminates parking seven (7) days prior to the beginning of an academic semester. No refund of parking fees will be made after the first day of classes in a semester or to a student who leaves the University or who no longer has a vehicle on campus.
There are two types of parking permits for Lasell University students:
- Resident Student Parking Permits: available to undergraduate and graduate students residing in University-owned residential facilities; undergraduate permits are issued by class standing (i.e. rising senior, rising junior, rising sophomore if available), through an application system held at the end of each Spring semester; class standing is based on the number of credits a student has completed as final grades due last day of classes in the Spring; students must meet all eligibility requirements in order to participate in the parking application; there is a fee for Resident Student Parking Permits; first-year students are not permitted to register vehicles at the University, and therefore are not eligible to obtain a Resident Student Parking Permit; first-year students who require special consideration for a Parking Permit, related to a documented medical issue, may petition in writing to the Director of Disability Services, for permission to register a vehicle. Graduate resident parking permits are on a first come first serve basis in the parking lot(s) adjacent to the Graduate housing.
- No student vehicles shall be left on campus while school is not in session during Winter/ Summer Break.
- Commuter Student Parking Permits: available to all undergraduate and graduate commuter students; commuter students may park in designated Commuter Student parking areas when classes are in session; Commuter Student Parking Permits do not allow for overnight parking; if a commuter student wishes to park his/her vehicle on-campus overnight, that student must notify Campus Police; there is a fee for Commuter Student Parking Permits.
Students, who arrive at a resident surface lot for which they have a permit, and find all of the parking spaces taken, must check all resident surface lots for a space prior to notifying the Campus Police. If there are no spaces available in any of the resident surface lots, students will be advised by Campus Police where to park until spaces in a resident surface lot become available. Students must not take it upon themselves to park in a lot other than that for which they have a permit, as they will be subject to being ticketing and/or towing. Students should only park in a resident surface lot, not any other lot on campus.
Students choosing to park on public streets should familiarize themselves with City of Newton parking regulations. Note: Please be sure to check the city’s winter parking regulations as well.
There is no short-term parking on campus. Students have seven (7) weekends of combined temporary/guest parking available to them each semester. Students who need to park their vehicles for a limited time in an area for which they do not have a permit, must notify Campus Police prior to parking their vehicles in order to obtain a temporary parking permit. An officer will advise students where to park temporarily, and the vehicles must be moved within the designated time period or they will be subject to ticketing and/or towing. Parking is available (designated areas) on campus between Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. for students with valid parking permits. Activating emergency flashers while parked illegally will not prevent a vehicle from being ticketed and/or towed.
Reminder: Vehicles are never permitted to park in a Fire Lane, nor are they permitted to park in a designated handicap space without a handicap parking permit. Such illegally parked vehicles are subject to immediate ticketing and/or towing at owner’s expense.
Students have seven (7) weekends of combined temporary/guest parking available to them each semester, between Friday at 5:00 pm and Sunday at 5:00pm. The Lasell University Student must register their vehicle with Campus Police. They are required to present his/her Lasell ID, valid license and valid vehicle registration. There is no fee for the Temporary Student Permit. The Lasell student is responsible for adhering to the parking rules and regulations. Failure to follow the parking rules and regulations may result in ticketing and/or towing at owners expense.
Temporary medical permits may be obtained the Campus Police, to accommodate students with temporary medical situations. Requests for temporary medical parking permits must first go through the Director Of Disability Services. Campus Police staff, in consultation with the Director of Health Services and/or the Director of Disability Services, will consider and respond to all requests for temporary medical permits.
Vehicles creating a safety hazard, parked in a fire lane, and/or illegally parked in handicap spaces, may be towed at any time. Vehicles that have received three or more parking tickets are subject to being towed, and having their parking privileges revoked. Vehicles parked on the University property not registered with Campus Police are subject to being towed at owner's expense. If a vehicle has been towed, the owner should contact Campus Police for instruction on how to retrieve his/her vehicle. All parking fines and fees related to the towing will be posted to the student’s account.*
Payments: Payment of parking fines and towing fees should be made via the Student Account Center (SAC). To make a payment, students can log in to MyLasell, click on University Resources, and go down to Pay MyBill. From the landing page, select Make a One Time Payment, then choose the appropriate term and complete the payment. Students may pay on line by check (using the account routing number) at no extra charge; or students may pay by credit card with a convenience fee.
Tickets issued for parking violations indicate the date, time, place, and reason for the ticket being written. Tickets are placed either on the windshield of the offending vehicle, or issued directly to your Lasell email. Any fines incurred will appear on the student account. Unpaid parking tickets may result in a “hold” being placed on a student’s account and/or against various College services.
The Lasell University Police Department reserves the right to issue a violation without any prior warnings.
