On Tuesday, April 8, the School of Communication and The Arts hosted their annual ComArts Conversations in Yamawaki Auditorium. This event brought together members of the Lasell community for a day of connected learning and professional development.

The day commenced at 10:00 a.m. with an interview of Matt Shearer, a social media storyteller and reporter for WBZ Newsradio, conducted by senior Michael Curran. Recognized as “Best Social Media Personality” by Best of Boston for two consecutive years, Shearer shared insights into his career journey and emphasized the importance of pursuing one’s passion.

Following Shearer, Alberta Chu was interviewed by sophomore Chloe Galipeau about her career transition into documentary filmmaking. As Founding Director of AskLabs, Chu has produced documentaries for PBS, Discovery, Fox, and National Geographic. She discussed the intersection of science and storytelling, highlighting the impact of visual media in conveying complex topics.

After a lunch break with pizza and refreshments, the afternoon sessions continued with an interview of Emmy-award-winning Anchor Latoyia Edwards by senior Hanna Babek. Edwards anchors for NBC10 and NECN and was recently named one of the most influential Bostonian by Boston Magazine.

The final speaker of the day was Travis Robertson, Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director of Colossus, an advertising agency in Boston. Robertson captivated the audience with his insights on leadership and creativity.  Under his leadership, Colossus was named AdAge’s 2024 Small Agency of the Year.
