November 30, 2021
Lasell University’s newest undergraduate degree program, Esports and Gaming Management, was designed to support the increasing demand for skills in a billion dollar industry. Thanks to streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, live streaming audiences now top 650 million people globally, leading to an increased demand for skilled business managers with a nuanced understanding of the esports world.
Students within the program will study within Lasell’s Longe School of Business and take courses in business statistics, business law, game design, convention and trade show planning, game distribution, and more.
Visiting Assistant Professor and Program Director Christina Alejandre came to Lasell ready to prepare students for those in-demand careers. Alejandre is an executive consultant in esports and video game publishing, and has held roles at ELEAGUE, Turner Sports, Electronic Sports League, Warner Bros. Games, Nickelodeon, and Viacom.
“In this industry, you need to find ways to set yourself apart from other candidates,” says Alejandre. “This degree will help our students accomplish that. Lasell has fantastic relationships with esports and gaming organizations, which will provide a network of Connected Learning experiences, internships, guest speakers, project-based learning opportunities, and industry exposure for the students.”
