From Lasell to the City of Fashion: A Two Week Parisian Experience
August 09, 2023
Lasell University School of Fashion students had the opportunity to apply and enroll in the Spring Fashion in Paris course this past semester. This trip included Fashion design, Fashion Media, and Fashion Merchandising students in an international setting for hands-on experience in the ever-changing global fashion industry.
Before traveling overseas to the fashion capital of the world, students prepared for the intensive study abroad experience by learning about French culture and the French/European fashion industry, making the course part lecture and part field practice.
Students visited several fashion landmarks within the city during the 14-day excursion. The trip included couture technique workshops for apparel and millinery, fashion lectures, working behind the scenes at Men’s Fashion Week shows, tours of prominent retail shops, the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay, Dior Museum, Yves St. Laurent Museum, Giverny, Versailles, and many more.
Students were able to share their personal experience through a travel blog where they wrote about their international opportunities. Blog posts described their experiences visiting the Foundation of Azzedine Alaia and The Grand Apartments at Versailles.
Fashion Design and Production student, Sean Spina ‘23, enjoyed the opportunity working back stage during Men’s Fashion Week, “When I was told we would be working backstage at Paris fashion week, I expected it to be chaotic and overwhelming, but it was eye opening seeing how these professionals worked backstage. Everyone there was chill, calm and focused on making sure the show went perfect. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to experience this part of the fashion world firsthand and hope I can find similar opportunities in the future.”
