GPS Spotlight: Sustainable Fashion Operations
January 10, 2022
The division of Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) at Lasell University has introduced a new MBA degree in sustainable fashion operations. The unique, 42-credit master’s degree program prepares visionary leaders in the fashion industry to evolve and innovate practices around fair trade, waste reduction, product management, and more.
Anne Trevenen, associate professor of fashion and program director of the sustainable fashion MBA, sees the new graduate offering as a dynamic opportunity for professionals in the field to further their education in a growing area of interest to both small design firms and large corporations.
“Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of how their apparel is made and what practices go into its production,” she says. “Through our MBA program, professionals in the field will develop effective frameworks and innovative sustainable approaches to improve circularity and ethical responsibility in the fashion world.”
The program, which can be completed in as few as 16 months in both fully online and hybrid formats, offers courses in global leadership, principles of project management, strategic marketing, sustainable sourcing, and ethical theory, among others.
“Through these courses, students will develop skills to become successful leaders who evolve, innovate, and implement new business strategies and practices toward building a sustainable fashion brand’s identity, awareness, equity, and customer retention,” says Trevenen.
Students will also:
- Plan and apply critical skills of project management to ensure projects are on time, on budget, and meet business goals
- Examine the supply chain and quality of sustainable fashion development
- Develop effective frameworks within product life cycle management
- Explore and analyze the industry’s triple bottom line, sustainable sourcing issues, ethical and fair-trade practices, resource efficiency, and waste/surplus reduction
Rolling admission for the MBA in sustainable fashion operations is offered for September, October, January, March, May, and July start dates.
