Men’s Volleyball Earns National Division III Ranking
March 31, 2022
The Lasell University men’s volleyball team received a first-place vote in a national NVA/AVCA Men’s Division III Coaches poll in early March, a first in program history. The team was ranked #15 in the country, the first national ranking for Jeff Vautrin ’17 as the team’s head coach.
The ranking came on the heels of the Lasers’ defeat of #1 nationally ranked Springfield College on March 1, another first in program history. The team has rallied through an incredible season with nine straight wins from February 3 through March 1, the win over Springfield, and a victory over the #5 nationally ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology in February.
Five of Lasell’s players have won weekly awards from the Great Northeast Athletic conference (GNAC) so far, with freshman Jordan Shinaut ’25 taking home six consecutive Rookie of the Week accolades. Freshman Theo Zaharewicz ’25 was also named Rookie of the Week this season. Junior Jesus Garcia ’23 was named Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, while juniors Jan Baranowski ’23 and Brenden Joyce ’23 were named Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
