Biography:
Catharine has worked in the fashion industry for over 15+ years for such companies as Liz Claiborne, Gucci, Ferragamo, Brahmin, the Museum of Fine Arts, and Priscilla of Boston. She started her fashion career in modeling at age 16 working in Boston and eventually New York. She has taught Marketing, Management and Fashion for over 15+ years at the college level. Catharine earned her Ph.D. from Salve Regina University  in 2016 focusing on the Ethics of Consumer Neuroscience.

As an academic, she has co-authored journal articles and books for Intellect and Bloomsbury, and reviewed for publishers such as Routledge, Goodheart-Willcox and Laurence King. She has presented at several conferences on the use of Consumer Neuroscience in Fashion. She serves as the faculty advisor for the NRFSA and acts as the merchandising liaison for the National Retail Federation, a national organization that Lasell is one of only 75 member colleges.  She is also the faculty advisor for the Fashion Connection Club, which presents a speaker series each year and networking opportunities within the industry. The club has also developed several trade show tours, which range from MAGIC in Las Vegas, regional shoe shows to Coterie and The BigShow in NY. Curricular projects in progress are the exploration and integration of new retail technologies into the fashion curricula and partnering with Lasell's Innovation Institute to develop "live" Capstone case studies for fashion students and corporate partners.

Catharine's teaching philosophy stems from Lasell’s Connected Learning values.

“I like to bring current and relevant knowledge of the industry into the classroom. My students thoroughly engage with hands on group projects based on contemporary and hypothetical case studies. The projects involve interactive strategic planning and open discussion. I encourage students to think on their feet with both practical and innovative ideas. Their education has a skill based value once they enter the workforce.”
