Early 1970s
Leo Narducci
Dress; Full-length with long, draping sleeves. Bodice is made of cream polyester crepe with a design of circular "bubbles" in varying sizes. Scooped neckline has a 2 1/2-inch yoke around both front and back. Bodice and sleeves are loosely gathered and sewn to the yoke. Bodice opening at center front is fastened with a series of 6 self-fabric covered buttons sewn at proper left. Corresponding self-fabric loops are sewn at proper right. Bodice has a white rayon lining. Long, flared sleeves are gathered at the wrist and sewn to cuffs that are 2 1/2 inches wide. Each cuff is closed with 2 covered button and fabric loops. A wide "cummerbund" is made with embroidered "Swiss ribbon" in a multicolored floral pattern. It is sewn to the bodice just below the bustline, and to the skirt at the waist. Long skirt is made of plaid rayon/acetate taffeta, quilted for effect. Two self-fabric pockets are sewn into the skirt at side seams. A band of black and white plaid taffeta is cut with zig-zag edges and applied to the skirt near the hemline. Cummerbund and skirt are fully lined with red rayon. An ivory nylon zipper closes the dress at center back. Three silvertone metal hooks with corresponding thread loops are sewn at center back yoke, with two more fastening the cummerbund. Titled "Christmas Dress" by the designer.
