2004.1.11-A-B Caftan
1970-71
Leo Narducci
Caftan; made of polyester knit printed with a bold floral design in white, green, and red on a black ground. It is covered all over with "sequins-by-the-yard" (clear iridescent, flat paillettes applied with a clear nylon thread). Voluminous garment (A) is basically cut as a large rectangle, with pants fashioned at the bottom. For shaping, it is gathered at the neckline and sewn to a stand-up collar. Openings are left at the upper sides for armholes Four bound belt carriers are placed at sides (two at front and two at back), close to the body below the bustline creating an empire silhouette. Caftan is fully lined with the same knit fabric. Pant legs have a 1 1/2 inch hem and are finished with black seam tape. A black nylon zipper closes the caftan at center back, with a metal hook and eye fastener holding the collar together. Long, narrow belt (B) is made with the same floral knit (without sequins). Black tassels, approximately 5 inches long are affixed at both ends.
